The Sacrament of Reconciliation, also known as Confession, involves the disclosure of sins to a priest, and is the normal way by which mortal sins are forgiven. Thus, anyone who is conscious of having committed a mortal sin should receive this sacrament as soon as is reasonably possible. Additionally, the Church recommends the regular confessions of even venial sins. Failure to address the smaller sins in our lives will lead to greater sins. A monthly confession is a healthy spiritual practice and assists one in rooting out sin and imperfection from one’s life.
The first reception of the Sacrament of Reconciliation typically takes place during second grade, while a child is in preparation for the reception of First Holy Communion. Enrollment in Catholic school, qualifying home school, or Parish School of Religion is required for at least two years leading up to reception of the Sacraments. Parents should contact a Director of Religious Education for additional information or to enroll their children.
