The Holy Eucharist 

 

The Sacrament of the Eucharist is the greatest celebration of Jesus’ love for us. 

 

The church, as community, gathers to remember Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. 

In a remarkable manner Jesus is present to us body, blood, soul and divinity in this Sacrament. 

Through participation in the Eucharist, we are strengthened by grace to deepen our union with

Christ to become Christ-like to the rest of the world.  Eucharist is the source and summit of our faith. 

The Eucharist was instituted by Christ at the Last Supper and given to the church for safe keeping

and distribution.  It is one of seven Sacraments the Roman Catholic Church celebrates. All the other sacraments point to the Eucharist.

• The family must be registered as members of SVdP Parish before enrollment of a child for sacramental preparation.

• Two consecutive years of preparation are required for reception of the Sacrament of First Eucharist for all children in Grades 1-8.

• Parents are the first and primary educators of their children. It is from them that they learn about love and forgiveness. Parent involvement is crucial in the preparation of a child in the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist. We ask that parents make a commitment to see to it that their child: attends Holy Mass regularly on the weekend and on Holy Days of Obligations, attends religious education classes regularly, practices and learns his/her prayers, attends a Saturday morning retreat, and continues religious education through classes at the church and through daily practice of the Catholic faith at home. 

• First Eucharist is typically celebrated in the 2nd grade, and is closely preceded by First Reconciliation.  These children will have completed the 1st grade Eucharist Preparation Religious Education class and will be actively participating in the 2nd grade Eucharist Preparation classes.

• For older students not yet in high school, a two- year Sacrament Preparation program for First Holy Eucharist is offered as part of the Religious Education Program at SVdP.

• Students who are in high school and who wish to receive First Holy Communion should contact the SVdP Religious Education office to discuss their situation. Based on their specific needs, an individualized Sacramental plan will be devised.

• A copy of the Baptismal Certificate must be on file before First Holy Communion, or any other sacrament, is received.
